Gholamhossein Mozafari, the governor of Razavi Khorasan in Iran, during a meeting with Noor Mohammad Mutawakkil, Afghanistan\u2019s Consul General in Mashhad, stressed the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries and described sustainable development as dependent on interaction, cooperation, and joint investment. He stated that shared cultural and economic capacities could provide a suitable foundation for strengthening trade relations.<\/p>\n
According to Iranian media, Mozafari called Afghanistan one of Iran\u2019s important economic partners and added that existing facilities should be utilized to increase bilateral exchanges. Referring to the Islam Qala border, he mentioned ongoing efforts to transform this crossing into one of the smoothest and most equipped borders as part of current plans.<\/p>\n
The governor of Razavi Khorasan also proposed the establishment of free economic zones on both sides of the border, saying this initiative could pave the way for attracting joint investments and expanding trade activities. He considered organizing the presence of Afghan citizens in Iran as part of the ongoing programs and emphasized that entry, residence, and employment of Afghans must be managed within a legal and transparent framework. According to him, the issuance of work visas for economic activists and the creation of clear mechanisms for the presence of Afghan nationals are underway.<\/p>\n
Mozafari, referring to the preservation of the dignity of Afghan citizens, called for reducing informal crossings and strengthening legal mechanisms between the two countries. In the same meeting, Noor Mohammad Mutawakkil mentioned the suspension of taxi services between Herat and Taybad since the start of the war and called for their resumption.
