Pakistani security officials report that 13 members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have been killed in a “clearing operation” in the Adamkhel Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the past two days. Among those killed were two Afghan nationals. According to the officials, the operation began on Friday, 8th Jawza (May 29), near Peshawar, and the area remains under siege by army and police forces.<\/p>\n
The Pakistani newspaper Dawn, citing security sources, reported that six TTP members along with two Afghan nationals were killed on Saturday, while five other members of the group were killed on Friday. According to the report, the two Afghan nationals were named “Qari Zainatullah” and “Longin,” and were affiliated with the TTP faction led by Tariq Gidar.<\/p>\n
Islamabad claims that since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, TTP attacks and activities in Pakistan have increased. Pakistani officials have repeatedly stated that members and leaders of the group have training centers and safe havens inside Afghanistan, and that some Afghan nationals also fight within the TTP structure against the Pakistani government.<\/p>\n
The Taliban administration has consistently denied these allegations, emphasizing that it does not allow the use of Afghan soil against other countries. However, critics argue that the continuation of TTP activities and the presence of its elements in border areas raise serious questions about the Taliban’s actual commitment to preventing the operations of cross-border militant groups.<\/p>\n
Last year, the Taliban administration held a meeting of religious scholars in Kabul and declared that going for “jihad” outside Afghanistan is not obligatory; however, some figures close to the Taliban have deemed warfare on Pakistani soil permissible.
