He emphasized that any permanent costs would ultimately impact consumers, which is why Qatar rejects them.

Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, added that rising tensions have led to an approximately 80% reduction in ship traffic through this vital waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the key energy transit points in the region, and any restrictions could have wide-ranging economic consequences.

According to the Qatari official, if the purpose of a fee is for temporary measures such as mine clearance or similar actions, discussions can take place. He noted that Qatar and other Gulf Cooperation Council countries have previously stated that imposing permanent charges on maritime passage would directly pressure the market and consumers.

Al Thani also said that Doha strives to manage its relations with the United States and Iran in a balanced manner. He added that Qatar aims to achieve a consensus within the Gulf Cooperation Council to develop a comprehensive strategy regarding Iran, encompassing both the political and commercial dimensions of its relationship with Tehran.

Qatar rejects permanent tolls on the Strait of Hormuz, favoring temporary fees and seeking balanced ties with the US and Iran amid regional tensions.

[17,6

post-13979","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-international
["GET
