The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced that on May 29, a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean was targeted by US forces, resulting in the deaths of three men. Washington claims the vessel was connected to drug cartels.<\/p>\n
SOUTHCOM released a statement on the social media platform X stating that the operation was ordered by General Francis L. Donovan. The Joint Task Force South Spear carried out a “lethal offensive strike” against what was described as a “vessel under the control of designated terrorist organizations.”<\/p>\n
According to the statement, based on intelligence information, the boat was traveling known drug trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific and was involved in trafficking activities. However, the US military has yet to publicly present any evidence to substantiate its claim that the vessel was indeed carrying drugs.<\/p>\n
This incident is part of a campaign by US President Donald Trump’s administration aimed at targeting vessels suspected of drug trafficking in Latin American waters, including the eastern Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The campaign began in early September and, according to reported statistics, has so far resulted in at least 197 deaths.<\/p>\n
