The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that at least 77 children have been killed or injured in the past week amid recent Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon. According to statistics provided by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 15 children have been killed and 62 others injured.<\/p>\n
Ricardo Pares, UNICEF spokesperson, stated in a press conference in Geneva that these figures are “shocking” and highlight that children continue to bear the brunt of the conflicts. He added that on average, 11 children have been injured every 24 hours during this period, with most cases resulting from airstrikes in southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n
According to the UN official, just in the past day, seven children were killed and 30 others were injured. UNICEF, referencing international humanitarian laws, stressed the urgent need to protect children and prevent civilians from being targeted during conflicts.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, despite a declared ceasefire on April 18, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have continued. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that from March 2 to May 29, the total number of fatalities has reached 3,355 and injuries have amounted to 10,095.<\/p>\n
