Local officials in Kunar and Nuristan have reported that thousands of families from various parts of the country traveled to these two provinces during the Eid holidays, marking a significant increase in tourist arrivals compared to previous years. They stated that following the establishment of comprehensive security, conditions have improved for expanding domestic tourism.<\/p>\n
Kunar and Nuristan, located in eastern Afghanistan, are mountainous provinces rich in natural attractions. Lush valleys, high mountains, cold climate, and the roaring Kunar River are among the factors that annually draw residents from various provinces, especially during occasions like Eid, to these areas.<\/p>\n
Tourists have also called on the Taliban administration and the private sector to not only ensure security but also seriously focus on developing tourism services. They demand the creation of more facilities, organized recreational areas, resting places, and quality services at tourist sites\u2014a matter that many locals believe still faces shortcomings.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, local officials have announced the establishment of special committees to manage tourist affairs during the Eid holidays. Monibullah Shakir, Head of Tourism at the Directorate of Information and Culture in Kunar, said that last year approximately 150,000 domestic tourists visited the province during Eid and it is expected that this number will increase this year. He added that thousands of brochures were distributed to guide tourists and teams from the Directorate of Information and Culture and security forces have been tasked with cooperation.<\/p>\n
Faridun Samim, spokesperson for the Governor of Nuristan, also stated that the three days of Eid were celebrated in a safe environment and that health and cultural committees have been appointed to attend to tourists\u2019 needs. He urged people to travel to the designated areas.<\/p>\n
Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan, officials have consistently spoken of improved security and view the rise in domestic travel as a sign of stability.
