The Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock of Khost province has announced that in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), 169 greenhouses have been constructed in various parts of the province over the past two years.<\/p>\n
Officials from the department stated that the goal of establishing these greenhouses is to increase agricultural yields, raise farmers’ incomes, and provide the opportunity to produce vegetables throughout all seasons of the year. They added that with the operation of these greenhouses, job opportunities have also been created for some local residents.<\/p>\n
Khost province is located in the eastern part of the country, where a large portion of the population is engaged in agriculture and livestock. The establishment of greenhouses can reduce farmers’ dependence on specific planting seasons and make it possible to supply fresh products during the winter as well.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, some farmers have requested the Taliban administration and cooperating organizations to implement such projects in the remote areas of Khost.
