A significant portion of these individuals were born outside Afghanistan and have grown up in migration settings.

To address the situation of these vulnerable families, the UN has introduced a new strategic plan for 2026. The aim of this program is to provide immediate support and facilitate the initial integration of returnees into society.

Under this new mechanism, returning refugees will be categorized based on their economic and social conditions to ensure that aid reaches families in the most difficult and needy situations first. In the initial phase, 35 key and priority districts across the country have been identified for the delivery of urgent cash assistance, healthcare services, and shelter.

The report highlights that a significant number of these women and children have grown up in camps or migration environments in neighboring countries and now require immediate support to adapt to Afghanistan’s social and cultural conditions.

This comes amid widespread return of refugees during fragile economic conditions and limited job opportunities under the Taliban administration, raising concerns about the capacity to effectively absorb and support them. The UN has urged donor countries to continue providing financial assistance during this critical phase to ensure the stability and initial integration of returnees.

UN warns over half of returning Afghan refugees are vulnerable women and children needing urgent support amid fragile economic conditions under Taliban rule.

[17,2,3

post-13692","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-migrant-news","category-top-news
["GET
