Lebanese President Michel Aoun declared that the full liberation of southern Lebanon is a direct responsibility of the government, and Beirut will not relent in demanding the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces. On the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of southern Lebanon, General Joseph Aoun stated that this year\u2019s commemoration comes while Lebanon continues to face the pressure of a \u201cpainful reality\u201d and ongoing Israeli attacks.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that Israeli assaults have not ceased and some southern villages remain under pressure, stressing that this situation is a clear violation of international resolutions, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. According to him, Lebanon does not accept this status quo, and the effort to end the occupation completely remains a steadfast and non-negotiable national demand.<\/p>\n
The Lebanese president emphasized that the government is pursuing negotiation as a means to achieve this goal. He added that direct negotiation does not mean surrender or compromise but rather underscores Lebanon\u2019s exclusive right to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity through its army and legitimate security institutions.<\/p>\n
Aoun described May 25 as a day of national dignity throughout Lebanon, recalling that on this day in 2000, Israeli forces withdrew as a result of the resistance and sacrifice of southern Lebanon\u2019s people. Without directly mentioning Hezbollah, he expressed appreciation for the soldiers and resistance fighters who played a role in liberating the south.<\/p>\n
He identified the Lebanese army as the sole guarantor of the country\u2019s national security and territorial unity and stressed that the Lebanese people deserve a strong, just government backed by legitimate civil and military institutions.
