UNAMA confirmed these meetings in a press release issued on Sunday, May 24.

According to the UNAMA report, Gagnon discussed the economic and social challenges and opportunities facing women entrepreneurs in a session with them. This comes amid widespread restrictions imposed on women in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, affecting their work, education, and social activities, which have severely impacted their economic participation.

The acting UNAMA chief emphasized during the trip that “the United Nations is present here to support the people of Afghanistan.” However, she did not provide further details on specific commitments or new programs by the mission.

These meetings took place against the backdrop of Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian crisis and economic downturn. A large portion of the population, especially women and vulnerable families, faces limited access to employment, education, and essential services. This issue has been repeatedly raised by international organizations, urging the Taliban administration to reconsider its restrictive policies.

UNAMA’s acting chief met Taliban officials and Afghan women traders in northern Afghanistan amid ongoing challenges and restrictions under Taliban rule.

[17,4,16

post-13592","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics","category-secondary-headline
["GET
