The Taliban recently approved this 31-article charter, which covers issues such as child marriage, conditions for divorce, and custody rulings. According to Afghan Rights Watch, the charter revolves around four main points: removing the minimum marriage age, interpreting a girl’s silence as consent, legitimizing child marriage, and granting extensive authority to male guardians, thereby paving the way for widespread violations of girls’ rights.<\/p>\n
The organization warned that the implementation of such provisions could lead to an increase in forced marriages and child marriages across different parts of the country, a serious social challenge that Afghanistan has faced in recent years. The formalization of these regulations, the group argues, reinforces gender discrimination structures and further restricts the fundamental rights of women and girls.<\/p>\n
