Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, welcomed the recent European Parliament resolution and urged the European Union not to normalize relations with the Taliban administration, emphasizing that Europe should stand with the Afghan people.<\/p>\n
Today, Saturday, May 23, Massoud posted a message on the social media platform X, stressing that European countries should support the freedom-loving people of Afghanistan instead of engaging with what he called “terrorists and tyrants.” He stated, “We call on our European friends to continue standing with the freedom-loving people of Afghanistan, not with the terrorists and tyrants who oppress them.”<\/p>\n
The leader of the National Resistance Front expressed appreciation for the new European Parliament resolution which requested EU member states to refrain from normalizing relations with the Taliban. This resolution comes amid increasing debates in recent months on how the international community should engage with the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
Massoud also thanked Pina Picierno, Vice-President of the European Parliament, and other members of the institution for their “clear stance against normalizing relations with the Taliban group.”<\/p>\n
He added that the European Union must uphold principles such as human rights, democracy, human dignity, and the rule of law\u2014principles to which Europe has long claimed commitment.
