The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced the launch of a new joint initiative titled ‘Wahdat’ aimed at supporting returnees, internally displaced persons, and host communities in the provinces of Herat and Farah. The program provides housing services, livelihood opportunities, and protective support to vulnerable families.<\/p>\n
This initiative is being implemented jointly by UNDP, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). Its funding is provided through the United Nations Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (UN STFA).<\/p>\n
Herat and Farah provinces, located in western Afghanistan, have witnessed a significant wave of returning migrants and rising numbers of internally displaced persons in recent years. Shortages of shelter, job opportunities, and basic services have created serious challenges for returning families.<\/p>\n
While international organizations are working to address some of these needs, it is expected that the Taliban administration will also take practical and transparent responsibility for providing basic services, creating sustainable employment opportunities, and effectively supporting citizens.
