Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Economic Deputy of the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s Office, inaugurated the second National and International Specialized Exhibition \u201cAbu Ali Sina Balkhi\u201d on Tuesday. He announced that currently, 134 drug manufacturing factories are active in Afghanistan. According to him, these factories produce 1,170 types of medicine, meeting about 38% of the country’s demand\u2014a figure that was 25% eight months ago.<\/p>\n
According to information presented at the event, approximately $450 million has been invested in the pharmaceutical sector. Mullah Baradar attributed the growth of this industry to the reduction of imported foreign medicines in recent months and said that the public has increasingly turned to domestic products.<\/p>\n
The Taliban’s Economic Deputy described supporting domestic production as a way to counter economic pressures and sanctions but acknowledged that drug factories need to improve quality standards and develop their products according to international benchmarks. The lack of adequate standards and effective oversight has been a serious concern in the health sector and medicine quality in recent years.<\/p>\n
He also urged traders to refrain from hoarding and selling medicines at high prices and called on responsible bodies to take strict action against such cases. Rising medicine prices and limited access to healthcare services remain challenges faced by many residents in the country.<\/p>\n
Mullah Baradar invited both domestic and foreign investors to invest in Afghanistan and assured that the Taliban administration is working to simplify the investment process and establish an electronic system. He added that the focus is not solely on the domestic economy, as economic interactions with regional and neighboring countries have increased.<\/p>\n
