This request was made during a meeting between officials from both sides on the sidelines of the “Russia–Islamic World” forum held in Kazan.

On Friday, May 15, Alexey Overchuk said after talks with the Taliban delegation that the topics of Russia’s broad interest in medicine, along with fuel issues, agriculture, and investment, were discussed. According to him, the Taliban administration is seeking the presence of professors who can teach Afghan students in various medical disciplines.

The Russian news agency TASS reported that Overchuk met with Neda Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Education, and both sides talked about expanding trade and economic cooperation. Customs, health and veterinary control, as well as the use of Afghanistan’s transit capacities, were other key points of the meeting.

Overchuk added that the Taliban administration has shown interest in importing Russian vehicles and agricultural products. Discussions also covered the continuation of fuel exports and investment cooperation. He emphasized that diplomatic contacts between the two sides at relevant institutional levels continue.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister described the potential for bilateral trade growth as “great” but noted that the current level of exchanges is low. According to statistics provided by Russia, the volume of trade between the sides is about $326 million, while Taliban figures estimate it close to $500 million. He also stated that in the first two months of this year, the volume of mutual trade increased by 2.6 times.

The 17th Russia–Islamic World Economic Forum is taking place from May 12 to 17 in Kazan, with a Taliban delegation in attendance. Meanwhile, inside Afghanistan, the higher education system, especially in medical training, faces serious challenges. Restrictions imposed by the Taliban on girls’ education have raised widespread concerns about the future availability of specialized professionals in the country.

The Taliban has asked Russia to send medical professors to Afghanistan to train students amid challenges in the country’s higher education system.

[7,17

post-13120","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news
["GET
