Haji Zaid, spokesperson for the Taliban governor of Balkh, wrote on the X network on Friday, May 15, that the governors of Balkh, Sar-e Pol, Jowzjan, Samangan, and Faryab provinces, as well as other security officials, were present at the meeting. He stated that the purpose of this gathering was to review important security, administrative, cultural, and social issues, and said that “necessary decisions” were made at the conclusion.<\/p>\n
Afghanistan\u2019s national radio and television, which operates under Taliban control, reported that in addition to security discussions, talks were held on law enforcement, combating criminal activities, fighting drug trafficking, preventing administrative and moral corruption, and also “preventing negative propaganda” against the Taliban. This agenda item, particularly regarding the prevention of negative propaganda, comes amid increasing restrictions on media and civil society activists in recent years, raising concerns about freedom of expression in the country.<\/p>\n
The Taliban police command in Balkh also shared images of this meeting on their official X account. Such meetings are held periodically every few months among senior Taliban officials in northern Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
The northwest zone, which includes the provinces of Balkh, Sar-e Pol, Jowzjan, Faryab, and Samangan, holds special security importance for the Taliban administration.
