According to Russian officials, this approach will be based on the principles of equality and mutual respect.<\/p>\n<p>Kirill Sapozhnikov, Deputy Director of the Department for Relations with Federal Units, Parliament, and Social Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasized in an interview with RIA Novosti that Moscow seeks to be not just a partner, but a trusted political ally for Islamic countries. He added that cooperation should be conducted on the basis of equal interaction and mutual understanding.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Russia has expanded its relations with several Islamic countries. Within this framework, ties between Tehran and Moscow have also developed, with the two sides signing a strategic partnership agreement, an action seen as a sign of enhanced bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Although Russia is a predominantly Christian country, it is home to a significant Muslim population.
