Local officials in Badakhshan province have announced that the number of Nubian ibex and Marco Polo sheep in Wakhan National Park has decreased by more than 38 percent compared to last year, raising concerns about the wildlife status in this protected area.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Asif Amiri, head of Wakhan National Park, stated that based on recent surveys, only 77 Marco Polo sheep and 28 Nubian ibex were observed in various parts of the park this year. According to him, this figure shows a significant decline compared to last year.<\/p>\n
Officials say that illegal hunting and overgrazing by livestock are the main factors seriously threatening the natural habitat of these animals. Environmental experts have repeatedly warned that the continuation of this situation could disrupt the ecological balance in Wakhan.<\/p>\n
Faiz-ur-Rahman Ibrahimi, head of Badakhshan Environmental Protection, announced the creation of a joint committee to address environmental challenges and prevent illegal hunting. However, local residents emphasize that without effective monitoring and practical measures by the Taliban administration, preventing the destruction of protected areas and curbing illegal hunting will be difficult.<\/p>\n
