On Tuesday, May 11, NI issued a statement reporting the arrest of at least three journalists within the past week and expressed concern over the continuation of this trend.

According to the information provided, Imran Danish and Mansour Niazi, reporters for Tolo News, along with Javid Niazi, head of the Peygard News Agency, have recently been detained by the Taliban administration. So far, no official reasons for these arrests have been announced, and the Taliban authorities have not responded to inquiries regarding the matter.

NI has called on the United Nations agencies and the European Union in Afghanistan to take immediate action to secure the release of these journalists and to prevent further pressure on the media. The organization emphasized that the continued detention of journalists further restricts the information environment.

Based on statistics shared by NI, since the Taliban regained control over Afghanistan, approximately 400 journalists have been arrested. According to the network, about six journalists currently remain imprisoned in Taliban-run facilities.

Media support organizations have repeatedly warned that the rising arrests and pressure on journalists pose a serious threat to media independence and the public’s access to information. They stress that this situation demands accountability and concrete action from the responsible bodies.

NI reports that journalist arrests have become routine under Taliban rule, urging UN and EU to act to protect press freedom in Afghanistan.

[17,4

post-12772","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-politics
["GET
