The Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that 1,000 jeribs of land in the Terakha area near the Hairatan port in Balkh province have been allocated for the establishment of a special economic zone. Nooruddin Azizi, the acting minister, stated that investment opportunities in this area have been made available to Uzbek investors and described the investment climate as favorable.<\/p>\n
According to the ministry’s newsletter, this issue was raised on Sunday during Azizi\u2019s meeting with Amanbai Oriybaev, the chairman of the parliament of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, and his accompanying delegation. Both sides emphasized expanding economic and trade relations and strengthening joint investments in the meeting.<\/p>\n
The discussions covered the export of Afghan cotton, coal, fresh and dried fruits, the development of the food and construction industries, and enhancing tourism cooperation between the two sides. They also addressed organizing high-standard joint international exhibitions, medicine production, mineral processing in Afghanistan, and joint investment in key sectors.<\/p>\n
The newsletter noted that cooperation on the export of salt from Karakalpakstan was also reviewed. Azizi requested Uzbekistan to establish a coordination and liaison office in the Termez market to facilitate easier communication between private sector representatives of both countries and increase trade volume.<\/p>\n
The chairman of the Karakalpakstan parliament also announced that the republic\u2019s chambers of commerce would soon open offices in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. According to him, officials at these chambers will assist in marketing Afghan export products and facilitating their access to these markets.<\/p>\n
The Uzbek delegation is scheduled to continue its visit by traveling to Balkh province and participating in bilateral meetings, trade forums, and commercial talks.
