Reports indicate growing dissatisfaction in the United Arab Emirates over Pakistan’s recent stance towards Iran. Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, stated that the country will continue its efforts to mediate between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. General Munir made these remarks on Sunday in Rawalpindi during the first anniversary ceremony of the three-day war between Pakistan and India.<\/p>\n
He devoted much of his speech to the 2025 conflict with India, asserting that New Delhi’s ambitions during that war exceeded its capabilities. According to him, the Pakistani military “will never be intimidated” and will respond decisively to any action. Munir also referenced events in 2001, 2008, 2016, and 2019, describing them as failed Indian attempts to impose what he called an “unjust war.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, The New York Times has reported that Pakistan’s mediatory role in the Gulf region, especially amidst recent tensions between the US and Iran, has heightened tensions between Islamabad and the UAE. The report states that in recent weeks, numerous Pakistani citizens have faced deportations, visa restrictions, and inappropriate treatment at their workplaces in the UAE.<\/p>\n
Quoting a Pakistani taxi driver, the report mentions that some workers were subjected to restrictions without clear explanations. It also alleges that due to dissatisfaction with Pakistan’s diplomatic position on regional developments, the UAE has implemented stricter measures against Pakistani workers, particularly Shiite workers.<\/p>\n
The New York Times added that Emirati officials have expressed displeasure over Pakistan\u2019s failure to strongly condemn Iran\u2019s retaliatory missile and drone attacks on UAE territory. Following these tensions, it has been reported that the UAE recalled a $3.5 billion loan to Pakistan, which constituted a significant portion of Pakistan\u2019s foreign reserves, and that Saudi Arabia subsequently supported Islamabad financially with a $3 billion deposit.<\/p>\n
However, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied reports of mass worker deportations.
