Pakistani newspaper Dawn, citing the country\u2019s security sources, reported that Fathullah, known as “Mudassir,” a member of the Taliban’s special forces, was killed last month in the Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to these sources, he was killed on April 9 during a security operation.<\/p>\n
Dawn described him as a “prominent terrorist” and stated that he was an active member of the “Yarmouk 60” special unit affiliated with the Taliban\u2019s Ministry of Interior. According to the report, Fathullah was originally from the Zormat district of Paktia province and was involved in militant activities inside Pakistan alongside the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).<\/p>\n
Pakistani security sources further claimed that he played a role in facilitating cross-border networks and planning insurgent attacks. They believe that available documents and evidence reinforce concerns about the activities of cross-border militant networks in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
The Taliban administration has not yet responded to the killing of its special forces member. This comes amid rising tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
Taliban officials have consistently claimed they do not allow Afghan territory to be used against other countries, particularly Pakistan; however, Pakistani officials have repeatedly rejected this claim, attributing the root of insecurities within their borders to the presence and activities of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan militants operating from Afghanistan and to the Taliban administration\u2019s security management approach.<\/p>\n
