The Department of Urban Development and Housing under the Taliban has announced the distribution of residential plots in a newly constructed township in the Gambiri area of Shiwa district, Nangarhar province, to families affected by the recent earthquake in Kunar province. According to the department, this township is built on one thousand jeribs of land and intended to accommodate families whose homes were destroyed in the recent earthquake.<\/p>\n
A statement from the department said the township has been designed according to a standard urban plan, and in addition to residential plots, roads and basic facilities have been planned. Specific areas have also been allocated for the construction of a school, mosque, health clinic, and a graveyard, ensuring residents have access to essential services in an organized environment.<\/p>\n
At the plot distribution ceremony, Najibullah Hayat Hakkani, acting head of the Department of Urban Development and Housing, the deputy governor of Nangarhar, the head of the Council of Scholars, and several local officials were present. In his speech, Mr. Hakkani stated that the Taliban administration aims to elevate the earthquake-affected families from being aid recipients to becoming aid providers.<\/p>\n
He described the project as highly significant, calling it a program that can enable development and improve the livelihoods of residents. However, while the distribution of land and township development are steps towards resettling those affected, it is expected that the Taliban administration will also diligently and transparently manage the practical construction of shelters, provision of sustainable services, and oversight of the township.<\/p>\n
