Simultaneously, nearly two thousand artifacts were transferred to museums and related laboratories. According to the ministry, 1,890 historical items were restored and renovated during the same year.

On Thursday, the ministry posted on its X (formerly Twitter) page that the newly discovered sites are located in multiple provinces, but it did not provide details regarding their exact locations, historical backgrounds, or archaeological significance. The lack of detailed information about these discoveries has raised questions, as transparency in the cultural heritage sector is essential for preservation and encouraging cooperation with scientific institutions.

According to published information, last year 1,953 artifacts were transferred to the National Museum, the National Laboratory, and provincial museums in Logar and Nangarhar. Of these, 291 items were obtained from the Mes Aynak archaeological site in Logar province, which is considered one of the country’s most important historical complexes, with origins dating back to ancient periods.

Additionally, 142 historical artifacts were discovered and confiscated from travelers at Kabul Airport and handed over to the National Museum. This action reflects ongoing efforts to prevent the smuggling of antiquities.

The Ministry of Information and Culture added that as a result of archaeological excavations at the Bala Hisar site in Kabul, 648 historical artifacts were recovered, including pottery, coins, metal vessels, and other items. Bala Hisar is a significant historical area in the country, encompassing multiple layers of civilization.

According to the ministry, in 1404, around 1,260 artifacts were restored, preserved, and cleaned in the provinces of Logar, Baghlan, Balkh, Samangan, Takhar, Kunduz, Jawzjan, Sar-e Pol, and Paktika; 800 pieces were treated at the National Museum in Kabul; and 630 items underwent restoration in local museums in Ghazni, Herat, and Faryab provinces.

Afghanistan is among the countries whose cultural heritage has suffered in recent decades due to war, illegal excavations, and the smuggling of historical artifacts. Experts continuously emphasize the necessity of professional management, sustainable protection, and transparent dissemination of information about cultural heritage to prevent further destruction and looting of these national treasures.

Afghanistan discovers 42 new historical sites in 2025, restores nearly 2,000 artifacts amid efforts to protect cultural heritage from damage and smuggling.

[15,17

post-12424","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-culture","category-important-news
["GET
