The United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that, together with its partners, it has distributed educational supplies to four million children across Afghanistan and contributed to the reconstruction of 232 schools in various parts of the country. The agency said the goal of this initiative is to provide safe and appropriate learning environments for children.<\/p>\n
Tajuddin Awaleh, UNICEF’s representative in Afghanistan, shared images on his X page on Wednesday, 16th of Sawr (May 6), stating that the children who received these packages now have access to basic educational materials. He emphasized that every child deserves a safe place to learn and the tools to build their own future.<\/p>\n
According to UNICEF, the distribution of learning materials and school reconstruction has created better spaces for learning and child development nationwide; efforts that are critically important for many vulnerable families amid severe economic hardships and limited resources.<\/p>\n
However, these efforts take place against the backdrop of Taliban government policies, particularly the ongoing ban on education for girls above the sixth grade, which effectively excludes half of the country’s students from formal education. This widespread restriction is considered one of the most serious obstacles to establishing an inclusive education system.<\/p>\n
Additionally, there are increasing criticisms regarding changes to the curriculum, which is being oriented towards more hardline religious interpretations.
