Mahmood Khan Achakzai, leader of one of Pakistan’s opposition parties, has called for the resumption of official talks with Afghanistan, warning that ongoing political tensions and misguided approaches have intensified economic pressures on Pakistan. He emphasized that the strained relations between the two countries have harmed regional stability and the livelihood of the people.<\/p>\n
Referring to the historical and economic ties among residents of the border areas from Chaman to Khyber, Achakzai said these deep connections cannot be ignored and Islamabad must reactivate constructive engagement with Kabul. According to him, Afghanistan was previously one of the major export markets for Pakistani goods, but this market has been lost due to persistent political tensions.<\/p>\n
He attributed Pakistan’s current economic problems to “misguided government policies” and added that restrictions imposed on bilateral trade have increased unemployment in Pashtun and Baloch regions. He stated that small traders in areas such as Khyber, Chaman, and Nushki, who depend on daily trade, have been the most affected.<\/p>\n
Achakzai also mentioned that farmers in Punjab province have suffered losses as market disruptions have left some of their products unsold. He stressed that despite tensions, Afghanistan still relies on imports from Pakistan, and Islamabad’s current policies are in practice damaging its own economic interests.<\/p>\n
