According to the agency, the cost of transporting food has also tripled due to rising fuel prices.

John Iliffe, head of the World Food Programme in Afghanistan, told The Guardian on Monday, April 24, that food shipments to Afghanistan now take about three weeks longer than usual. He added that increased fuel prices have dramatically raised transportation costs.

Iliffe noted that disruptions to maritime routes, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, have complicated the delivery of food aid. Currently, the organization’s shipments of fortified biscuits must be transported overland through seven countries instead of the usual sea route, a path that is both time-consuming and expensive.

The WFP chief warned that continuing this situation could have serious humanitarian consequences. He said that if the crisis persists, more children in Afghanistan will face the risk of hunger and may even lose their lives.

Afghanistan, where a large portion of the population depends on humanitarian aid, is vulnerable to fluctuations in regional trade routes. Any disruption to key transit corridors could directly affect the food security of the country’s residents.

WFP reports a 20% rise in Afghan food prices and serious aid delays due to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and soaring fuel costs.

[7,17,16

post-12152","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news","category-secondary-headline
["GET
