Mahmud Khan Achakzai, leader of the Pakistani opposition, has warned that Afghanistan has become the “graveyard” of great powers in contemporary history, urging Islamabad to avoid repeating past mistakes. He noted that just as British India, the former Soviet Union, and the United States faced serious difficulties in Afghanistan, Pakistan should not embark on a path with similar consequences.<\/p>\n
The Pashtun politician emphasized that while conquering Afghanistan may seem easy for neighboring countries, maintaining and governing it is not a simple task. According to him, historical experience shows that intervention and long-term control efforts in Afghanistan have always been accompanied by complex political and security challenges.<\/p>\n
Achakzai added that a kind of “excitement” regarding Afghanistan could be dangerous for Pakistan, and it must not be allowed to become another draining battleground for Islamabad.<\/p>\n
He also proposed that to resolve tensions, direct talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be held with the participation of neighboring countries and under the leadership of the United Nations Secretary-General, so that problems can be resolved through diplomacy and political understanding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
