He was convicted of conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization related to the attack, although the final sentence has not yet been issued.

According to a Reuters report, the jury could not reach a consensus on whether Sharifullah’s actions directly caused deaths during the event. Therefore, he was spared a possible life sentence but still faces up to 20 years in prison. The U.S. district judge has not scheduled a sentencing date.

The attack, which coincided with the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. military personnel and approximately 160 Afghan civilians. It remains one of the deadliest attacks during the final days of the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan and raised widespread concerns about the country’s security situation.

U.S. prosecutors stated that Sharifullah assisted the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) by conducting reconnaissance and facilitating communications prior to the attack. Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, numerous questions have been raised about how to curb extremist group activities and ensure nationwide security.

On March 4, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States, in cooperation with Pakistan, had arrested an individual linked to the attack. Media reports at the time identified the individual as Mohammad Sharifullah.

Mohammad Sharifullah, an Afghan citizen, was found guilty by a US jury for his role in the 2021 Kabul airport attack, facing up to 20 years in prison.

[17,6

post-11823","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-international
["GET
