In a recent report titled “Water as a Weapon,” the international organization stated that the “engineered” water shortage coincides with the killing of civilians, destruction of healthcare centers, and devastation of homes. The group believes that the widespread destruction of civilian water facilities and denial of access to water are integral parts of what it calls genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n
Based on eyewitness accounts and data collected in 2024 and 2025, the report warns that this ongoing process imposes inhumane and devastating living conditions on Gaza\u2019s residents. It notes that the population faces severe drinking water shortages, unprecedented overcrowding, and the collapse of the health system\u2014conditions that raise the risk of disease outbreaks.<\/p>\n
Claire Sanfilippo, emergency director at Doctors Without Borders, said Israeli forces are well aware that life without water is unsustainable. Nevertheless, they systematically destroy water infrastructure and prevent the entry of related equipment and supplies. She added that several Palestinians have been targeted and killed while attempting to access water.<\/p>\n
Doctors Without Borders, citing information from the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Bank, stated that approximately 90 percent of Gaza\u2019s water and sewage infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged. According to the organization, treatment plants, wells, pipelines, and sewage networks are either unusable or inaccessible.<\/p>\n
There have also been numerous recorded incidents where water-carrying trucks and wells linked to the organization were shot at or destroyed.
