The General Directorate of National Preparedness and Disaster Management under the Taliban administration announced that Mullah Nooruddin Turabi emphasized support for volunteer forces and strengthening the disaster management information system during a meeting with officials from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). According to the directorate, the meeting discussed preventive construction projects and emergency aid.<\/p>\n
In a press release from the directorate, Mr. Turabi described the International Organization for Migration as an important partner in implementing preventive and construction projects and said the recruitment of volunteer forces is progressing rapidly and will soon be completed. He added that after this process is completed, support is needed for volunteers in terms of equipment and capacity building.<\/p>\n
The head of the directorate also stressed the importance of the National Disaster Management Information System (NDMIS), saying that strengthening this system and supporting its staff can help provide comprehensive empowerment in managing natural disasters. Afghanistan is considered one of the countries most vulnerable to natural events such as earthquakes and floods, and the effectiveness of such systems plays a key role in reducing damages.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mia Park, head of the International Organization for Migration, announced the continuation of the organization’s projects in Afghanistan and stated that incomplete projects in Paktia province will soon be finalized. She also added that efforts are underway to build shelters for earthquake victims in some areas of Kunar province.<\/p>\n
