The construction of the Yetimt\u0101q cement factory in Jowzjan province officially began on Monday, with the presence of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Taliban administration. The project, funded by a Turkish company with an investment of 160 million dollars, is planned to produce three thousand tons of cement daily. Officials have stated that upon completion, the factory will create about five thousand direct and indirect job opportunities.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mullah Baradar said strengthening domestic industries and supporting national production are fundamental pillars of Afghanistan’s economic growth. He emphasized that the Taliban administration aims to gradually shift the country’s economy from reliance on imports towards production-oriented activities.<\/p>\n
According to him, this industrial project is part of plans to develop domestic production capacity to prevent the export of raw materials and instead process them within the country. However, economic experts have repeatedly stressed that achieving such goals requires access to global markets, an active banking system, and transparent economic policies\u2014areas in which Afghanistan still faces serious challenges.<\/p>\n
The Taliban\u2019s Deputy Economic Minister also called on the international community to expand economic interactions with Afghanistan through official channels. He claimed that security and political stability have been established in the country and that there are significant economic opportunities.<\/p>\n
This comes amid ongoing sanctions and banking restrictions, which remain major obstacles to extensive investment and normalization of Afghanistan\u2019s economic relations with the world. Some observers believe that, in addition to sanctions, the lack of responsive and inclusive domestic structures also hampers the level of economic cooperation.<\/p>\n
According to provided information, the construction of the Yetimt\u0101q cement factory is expected to be completed within two years.
