The purpose of the visit was to assess initiatives funded by the EU and technically managed by UNDP, aimed at strengthening the local economy and creating job opportunities—particularly for women.

During the visit, projects in saffron production, food processing, and textile industries—led by Afghan women in Herat—were closely evaluated. These initiatives have not only created employment and income for dozens of women but have also played a significant role in improving household economies and boosting the local community.

As Afghan women continue to face severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration, these projects reflect ongoing international efforts to preserve the social and economic roles of women in Afghanistan. Over the past two years, the Taliban has systematically curtailed women’s fundamental rights, significantly reducing their participation in economic and social spheres.

Continued support from international organizations, particularly in provinces like Herat, offers a glimmer of hope for women’s empowerment and the recovery of some of Afghanistan’s lost economic potential. However, without guarantees for fundamental rights and freedoms, these achievements remain under serious threat from the Taliban regime.

EU and UNDP officials meet Afghan women entrepreneurs in Herat to evaluate initiatives supporting women’s economic empowerment under Taliban rule.

[7

post-1157","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business
["GET
