The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a warning that rising hunger and malnutrition in Afghanistan pose a serious threat to the future of millions of children. The agency stated that by 2026, approximately 3.7 million children and one million women in the country will suffer from acute malnutrition.<\/p>\n
According to the organization, the ongoing economic crisis, dwindling financial resources, and widespread vulnerability among families have kept the number of those in need of food assistance exceptionally high. The WFP emphasized that the consequences of malnutrition endanger not only the health of children but also cause irreversible damage to their physical and mental development in the long term.<\/p>\n
The agency added that food aid is being provided to those in need with support from international donors, including the United Kingdom. According to published data, the World Food Programme has so far supported nine million children and women in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
