The International Traditional Wrestling Competitions of Afghanistan, initiated by the Taliban’s Physical Education and Sports Department, have commenced in Kabul. The event was attended by several Taliban officials, diplomats, domestic and international athletes, and hundreds of spectators.<\/p>\n
At the opening ceremony, Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration, spoke about Afghanistan’s relations with regional countries, particularly Central Asia, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation. He also expressed concern about the expansion of war in the region and underscored the significance of continuing ceasefires and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.<\/p>\n
Muttaqi claimed that Afghanistan has overcome challenges and is on a path to progress, with efforts being made to empower the younger generation through education and sports. These remarks come amid ongoing restrictions and a lack of sporting facilities that many athletes and young people in the country have faced in recent years. Holding such events could serve as a test of the actual level of support for sports in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Approximately 100 domestic athletes and 60 foreign athletes from various countries including Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey are participating in the competitions. Organizers have stated that the event will continue for three days.<\/p>\n
Officials have expressed hope that similar international sporting programs will be held in Afghanistan in the future.
