Nurullah Nuri, acting head of the Taliban’s Ministry of Borders, Tribes, and Ethnicities, announced at a public gathering in Takhar province that Pakistan is attempting to recognize the so-called Durand Line as the official border between the two countries. He stated that this move has been met with opposition from the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
Nuri emphasized that the Taliban are not seeking war, but if “war is imposed on Afghanistan,” defending the country’s territory is an absolute duty. He also claimed that Pakistan does not want a “strong regime” to form in Afghanistan and is striving to maintain its influence over the country’s internal affairs.<\/p>\n
The Durand Line, drawn over a century ago between Afghanistan and British India, has always been a contentious issue in Kabul-Islamabad relations. Previous Afghan governments had also refused to recognize it as an official border, a stance that continues under the Taliban administration.<\/p>\n
The acting head of the Taliban’s Ministry of Borders further stated that the current regime aligns with the “beliefs, culture, and values of the Afghan people” and called on citizens to remain united to strengthen it. He also claimed that unprecedented security, freedom, and national unity exist across the country today.<\/p>\n
These claims come amid reports from international organizations and numerous citizens indicating widespread restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms, particularly in education and employment for women. Such issues remain serious challenges to the Taliban’s domestic and international legitimacy.<\/p>\n
