However, the organization has expressed serious concerns about the ongoing ban on girls’ education beyond the sixth grade, describing it as the biggest structural obstacle to equitable human capital development in the country.

According to the released data, among these children, approximately 2.7 million are boys and 1.9 million are girls. Despite existing limitations, the UN stated that educational services have been widely covered in some areas, and the number of children accessing public education has even exceeded the annual set targets—highlighting the sustained demand and need for primary education in Afghanistan.

Nevertheless, the UN has emphasized that depriving adolescent girls of formal education exposes them to risks such as early marriage and increases pressure on community-based alternative education programs. The UN believes that this ongoing situation seriously threatens the academic and social future of the younger generation of girls.

Tajuddin Owais, the acting UN humanitarian coordinator in Afghanistan, said the organization is committed to continuing its operations in the country and strives to manage existing restrictions against girls and women in line with its principles. He added that, with the cooperation of donors and local partners, there is hope for a bright future in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, several residents of Kabul have also emphasized the importance of education. As the new solar academic year begins, boys and girls below sixth grade have returned to schools; however, the Taliban administration has yet to announce any new stance regarding the reopening of schools for girls beyond the sixth grade.

The UN reports 4.6 million Afghan children accessed education in 2025 but warns serious concerns remain over banning girls’ education beyond sixth grade.

[17,16,8

post-11060","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-important-news","category-secondary-headline","category-social-affairs
["GET
