The United Nations in Afghanistan announced that in 2025, 18,616 women entrepreneurs across the country have been supported by the organization. According to the UN, this initiative has strengthened the role of women in economic activities through small and medium-sized enterprises.<\/p>\n
On Monday, 20 April, the UN posted a message on X stating that these supports have facilitated greater female participation in the labor market and helped develop small businesses in various regions of the country. Small and medium enterprises are considered key pillars of developing economies and play a significant role in job creation.<\/p>\n
The UN had previously emphasized that the continued ban on secondary education for girls imposed by the Taliban administration remains the most significant structural barrier to the equitable development of human capital in Afghanistan. International organizations have repeatedly warned that depriving girls of education will have long-term consequences on the country’s economic and social growth.<\/p>\n
According to released information, more than 34 million people in Afghanistan have benefited from UN aid programs, and over 4.6 million children have been enrolled in schools with UN support. Additionally, around 45,000 long-term jobs have been created under support programs, a portion of which have been allocated to women and men in various regions.<\/p>\n
Following the Taliban\u2019s return to power in Afghanistan, women have been banned from working in many government offices and non-governmental organizations, restrictions that have faced widespread domestic and international criticism.
