Yasmin Ansari, an Iranian-American member of the US House of Representatives, has introduced an impeachment resolution against Pete Hegseth, the US Defense Secretary, accusing him of war crimes and violating the US Constitution. Among the allegations cited is the attack on a girls\u2019 school in Minab, Iran, which resulted in the deaths of over 160 children.<\/p>\n
Ansari posted on the social media platform X that Hegseth, by violating his oath, endangered the lives of American military personnel and was involved in attacks against civilians. She emphasized that, according to the US Constitution, only Congress has the authority to authorize acts of war, and in her view, the Defense Secretary should be immediately removed from office.<\/p>\n
The congresswoman added that anyone committing war crimes must be held legally accountable. She strongly condemned the Defense Secretary\u2019s conduct and warned that if he continues in his role, further accusations will be made.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, House Democrats have announced that they will present five impeachment articles against Pete Hegseth on Wednesday. According to The Hill, the charges include committing war crimes related to military actions against Iran, abuse of power, and mismanagement within the Department of Defense.<\/p>\n
Axios also reported that Yasmin Ansari, representing Arizona, is the first Democratic member of Congress to file this five-article impeachment resolution.
