This surge has generated substantial revenue for the country through transit fees.

According to aviation industry estimates, considering an approximate fee of $700 per aircraft, this weekly influx results in around $1.4 million, and more than $70 million annually in revenue. This increase comes amid restrictions on traditional flight corridors between Europe and Asia, caused by the war in Ukraine to the north and instability in parts of the Middle East.

Consequently, airlines have increasingly opted for routes that cross Afghanistan and some other countries like Saudi Arabia. Charging fees for airspace usage is an internationally accepted norm and is typically calculated based on distance traveled and aircraft weight.

In Europe, this process is coordinated through bodies such as Eurocontrol, with revenues allocated to national air navigation service providers to fund air traffic management and infrastructure. However, in Afghanistan, the fee collection system has been set since 2017 based on a fixed rate per aircraft.

Aviation experts point out that despite ongoing overflights, operational procedures in Afghanistan’s airspace differ from those with advanced systems; airlines are required to submit flight plans in advance and maintain close coordination.

Meanwhile, the Taliban administration has not released clear information regarding how these revenues are used or invested in the development of aviation infrastructure. Observers believe this issue demands greater transparency and accountability.

At the same time, regional tensions have affected other aviation activities. Some airlines have reduced or suspended services to several Middle Eastern destinations. Swiss International Air Lines has confirmed cancellations of flights to Dubai and Tel Aviv, and the tour operator TUI Swiss has temporarily limited travel offerings to several countries in the region.

According to tourism industry observers, passenger demand is now shifting towards alternative destinations in parts of Europe and the Caribbean—a trend reflecting ongoing changes in the global flight map.

Flights over Afghanistan have increased fivefold, generating over $70 million annually in transit fees amid regional instability and changing global air routes.

[7,17

post-10702","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-important-news
["GET
