They warn that continued rain raises the risk of further destruction to other historical areas.

Hamidullah Nissar, head of Ghazni’s Information and Culture Department, stated that approximately 30 meters of the old city have collapsed, and the walls of several residential houses have been damaged. He added that the Arbaba Sahib Shrine and several other shrines, which had already needed renovation, have been partially damaged.

According to the department, consecutive rains have not only harmed historical water reservoirs but have also destroyed dozens of houses within the historic Ghazni fortress and the old city areas, sparking concern among local residents.

Residents of Ghazni have called on responsible authorities and aid organizations to urgently take action for the restoration of historical sites and assistance to affected families. They emphasize that neglecting the preservation of these heritages could lead to irreparable cultural losses.

Meanwhile, Ghazni’s Information and Culture Department says it has sent an official damage report to the Ministry of Information and Culture under the Taliban administration and is awaiting decisions to initiate reconstruction efforts.
