Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Media has announced that since the recent clashes with the Taliban began, 799 Taliban fighters have been killed and 1,034 others wounded. Atallah Tarrar also stated that Pakistani forces have destroyed 286 Taliban outposts in border areas and captured 44 more. According to him, 249 Taliban tanks and military equipment have also been destroyed during this period.<\/p>\n
The Pakistani official added in a note on the social media platform X that 81 locations inside Afghanistan have also been targeted by airstrikes. Islamabad claims these attacks resumed after the temporary Eid al-Fitr ceasefire ended and only military positions were targeted.<\/p>\n
In response, the Taliban administration has not officially reacted to Pakistan’s latest figures. Meanwhile, the group previously claimed to have captured several Pakistani border posts and destroyed others \u2014 claims Islamabad has not confirmed.<\/p>\n
Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, said on Sunday that in Pakistani attacks from February 22 to April 4, 761 civilians were killed and 626 others wounded. He also claimed that during this time, 27,407 families were forced to flee their homes. Pakistan rejected these allegations, insisting its operations target military objectives.<\/p>\n
About a month and a half into the tensions, diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis continue. In this context, representatives from both sides are engaged in talks hosted by China in the city of Urumqi; however, no details on the content of these discussions have been released so far.<\/p>\n
Previously, three rounds of talks between the two sides were held in Qatar, Riyadh, and Istanbul without any conclusive outcomes.
