John Bolton, former US National Security Advisor, has said that the recent attacks leading to the downing of two American fighter jets have left President Donald Trump “terrified and shaken,” damaging the credibility of the White House.<\/p>\n
According to The Hill website, Bolton told CNN host Kaitlan Collins that the president’s lack of a public response after the incident indicates that the attack “definitely hurt the White House’s credibility and is a self-inflicted wound.”<\/p>\n
Bolton added that, in his view, Trump is likely once again in a state of anxiety and is seeking a way to declare victory and exit the conflict, regardless of whether the issue of the Strait of Hormuz\u2014a critical energy transit route in the region\u2014is resolved first.<\/p>\n
The former White House official also stated that if the circumstances of this confrontation have “upset” the US president, it is not just a personal problem but, as Bolton put it, a “national problem” and that, in his opinion, such a situation could have been avoided.<\/p>\n
