Taliban Official Says Pakistan Regime Is Alien to Islamic Laws

A commander from the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense Health Directorate has stated that while the people of Pakistan are Muslims, the ruling regime lacks the necessary awareness and commitment to Islamic laws and practices. The Taliban official compared Pakistan’s military governance to a laborer who works merely for wages without knowledge of Islamic teachings and no sense of responsibility towards their implementation. According to him, this approach has caused the power structure in Pakistan to drift away from religious values. He further claimed that for a fully Islamic system to be established in Pakistan, regime change must occur through the pressure and will of the Pakistani people—remarks that may heighten political and security sensitivities in the region. Meanwhile, several analysts argue that the historical role of Pakistan’s military and intelligence institutions, which they believe stems from colonial-era structures, has always been a subject of debate. These analysts assert that such institutions pursue policies domestically and regionally that conflict with the interests and desires of segments of Muslim communities, a matter that has previously sparked widespread criticism and reactions.
