Iran’s Leader Emphasizes Continued Control Over Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Supreme Leader, on the occasion of May 1st, Persian Gulf National Day, declared that Iran will secure the security of the Persian Gulf region by managing the Strait of Hormuz and prevent any misuse of this waterway.
According to Mehr News Agency, in an official message, he described the Persian Gulf as a strategic blessing for the peoples of the region, especially Iran. He noted that this body of water, in addition to its historical and civilizational significance, is a vital economic route through the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman. Referring to the history of conflicts in the area, he identified the presence of foreign powers as a source of instability.
The Supreme Leader recalled historical events, including the expulsion of the Portuguese from the Strait of Hormuz, which is the foundation for naming the Persian Gulf National Day. He emphasized that the Islamic Revolution marked a turning point in resisting foreign influence in the region. He also referred to developments in the past two months, describing them as the beginning of a “new chapter” in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
The message stated that lasting security in the region must be achieved through cooperation among neighboring countries, and the presence of extra-regional forces does not contribute to stability. He stressed that Iran and the other Persian Gulf littoral states share a common destiny, and regional cooperation can lead to the progress and prosperity of their peoples.
The Supreme Leader also spoke of drafting and implementing new legal frameworks for managing the Strait of Hormuz and expressed hope that this approach would benefit all countries in the region, creating conditions for peace and economic development.
