UNICEF: Reduction in Unvaccinated Children in Afghanistan Is Life-Saving

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stated that the decrease in the number of children in Afghanistan who have not received any vaccines is not merely a statistical goal but a vital measure to save the lives of thousands of children. The agency emphasized that universal access to vaccines can prevent the spread of preventable diseases.

UNICEF expressed gratitude towards the support of the Global Vaccine Alliance, stating that with its backing, safe access to vaccines across Afghanistan has been made possible. According to the organization, delivering vaccines to remote and vulnerable areas remains a fundamental priority of health programs.

Meanwhile, the Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health has stressed the delivery of quality health services nationwide and considers vaccination programs an important part of these efforts. However, extensive challenges in the health system, shortages of facilities in some regions, and economic constraints have raised concerns about equal access for children to health services.

This comes amid severe economic difficulties faced by many residents of the country, making it hard for some families to meet basic living needs. In such circumstances, providing free and safe vaccines for children is not only a health initiative but a crucial action for the survival of Afghanistan’s future generation.
