Pakistani Police Accused of Mistreating Afghan Refugee Over ‘Greater Afghanistan’ Remarks

Reports indicate that Pakistani police arrested an Afghan refugee following his comments on social media about the concept of a “Greater Afghanistan” and mistreated him in custody. The incident occurred after a video featuring the individual, identified as Shah Nawaz, circulated online. In the video, he described Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as part of Greater Afghanistan. It is reported that police subjected him to physical abuse after his arrest and forced him to confess. Shah Nawaz later stated that he had not retracted his previous stance and continues to stand by his views. He expressed hope that the Pakhtunkhwa region, which he described as being under pressure, would one day join Greater Afghanistan. These reports emerge amid ongoing concerns and criticism from human rights organizations regarding the treatment and human rights of Afghan refugees in neighboring countries, especially in relation to security agencies.
