Kabul-Jalalabad Highway Temporarily Closed Due to Landslide and Flooding in Tang-e-Gharu

The Kabul-Jalalabad highway has been temporarily closed since yesterday due to heavy rains, flash floods, and ongoing landslides in the Tang-e-Gharu area. Authorities have made this decision to ensure the safety of residents and travelers.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works has announced that landslides in the area are still ongoing and that parts of the detour route and a reinforced bridge have also been damaged. Additionally, between Sarobi and the Laghman gate, large and small rocks have fallen onto the road surface, posing serious risks to traffic.
Mullah Mohammad Isa Thani, acting head of the ministry, visited the affected site. According to Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the ministry’s spokesperson, operational and technical teams have been instructed to deploy sufficient machinery to the area. As soon as the water recedes, they will begin clearing the road, repairing damaged sections of the detour, and reconstructing the reinforced bridge.
The Kabul-Jalalabad highway is one of the country’s crucial transit and economic routes, connecting Kabul to the eastern provinces. Its closure disrupts the travel of thousands of passengers and the transport of commercial goods. Therefore, it is expected that the Taliban administration will implement effective management and preventive measures to avoid the recurrence of such incidents on this vital highway.
