One Refugee Dead, 20 Rescued After Being Abandoned in Farah River by Human Traffickers

Local officials in Farah province report that following the abandonment of 21 Afghan migrants in a river, one person has died while 20 others were rescued. According to authorities, these individuals were attempting to illegally enter Iran when human traffickers abandoned them in the water.
Mullah Kalimullah Nangial, spokesperson for the Farah Security Command, told media outlets that the incident occurred when traffickers left the migrants alone in the middle of the river. He added that this action resulted in one fatality and left the others at serious risk of drowning.
Nangial stated that upon receiving the report, security forces in Jawin district, alongside intelligence officers and personnel from the first battalion of the 9th border brigade, launched an immediate rescue operation. As a result, 20 individuals trapped in the water were pulled out.
Taliban officials in Farah said the rescued individuals were transferred to a safe location and are receiving medical care.
Similar incidents over recent years have repeatedly claimed the lives of Afghan migrants, highlighting once again the dangers of illegal migration and the activity of human trafficking networks. Many families, facing economic hardships and widespread restrictions, are forced to choose perilous routes—underscoring the urgent need for serious attention and deterrent measures against traffickers.
