Flooding in Nangarhar Destroys Farmland and Threatens Farmers’ Livelihoods

Officials from the Taliban administration in Nangarhar have reported that severe rainfall and flooding in parts of the province have resulted in three deaths and six injuries. These incidents occurred last night, with most casualties reported in Jalalabad city and Haska Mina district.
According to the Taliban media office in Nangarhar, two children died in the eighth district of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, due to the collapse of a residential building’s roof. Five others were injured in the same incident.
Additionally, a poultry farm in Haska Mina district was destroyed by the flood, killing one person and injuring another. Officials stated that approximately 1,500 chickens also perished in the event.
The Taliban administration added that agricultural lands in several Nangarhar districts were damaged, which could negatively impact the livelihoods of the local residents.
At the national level, officials said that approximately 50 people have died due to rainfall and floods over the past week. Despite repeated similar incidents in previous years, there have been ongoing criticisms regarding the lack of preventive measures, crisis management, and timely assistance to those affected—a matter that calls for greater accountability and more effective planning by the Taliban administration.
